FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Sending your work to an editor for the first, second, or even fifth time can be a nerve-wrecking experience. I will work thoroughly and tirelessly to handle your manuscript. I strive to be critical yet gentle in my comments and markups.

01

My manuscript is incomplete. Will you still work with me?

Yes, but at the moment, my services do not include developmental editing (though I hope to add that service in the future). I can still proofread or copy edit your work, which may include comments that will help spur you to finish your work.

02

What is the difference between a "blind" rate and a "standard" rate?

Most professionals who work in the publishing industry consider a "blind" edit to be one without a prior copy to reference. In other words, an original manuscript would be considered "blind." If you have prior manuscript and need a rewritten manuscript to be reviewed, then the "standard" rate would apply.

03

What is the time frame between a "standard" rate and a "rush" rate?

It depends on the work and difficulty of the material, but I consider a standard time frame as one to two weeks on a blind edit for a standard-size novel or non-fiction (150,000 words). Shorter works can usually be done in under a week at the standard rate. If your manuscript has not been submitted to a publisher, you probably don't have to worry about a "rush" rate, since deadlines with typesetters are many times what determine editing deadlines.
